It is important to get a hearing test if you have concerns about your hearing, if you have been exposed to loud noise, if you have a medical condition that may affect your hearing, or if you have a history of ear infections. Regular check-ups are also recommended to monitor your hearing health and catch any changes early on. By getting regular hearing tests, you can take control of your hearing health and ensure that you are hearing to the best of your ability.

Regular Check-ups:
Just as you have regular dental check-ups, it is important to have regular hearing check-ups. If you have not had a hearing test in a while, it is recommended that you get one, especially if you are over 50 years old.

Concerns about hearing loss:
If you or a loved one has noticed a change in hearing ability or is experiencing symptoms of hearing loss, such as difficulty understanding speech, turning up the volume on the TV or radio, or ringing in the ears, it is important to get a hearing test.

Exposure to loud noise:
Exposure to loud noise, whether from work or leisure activities, can cause hearing loss. If you work in a noisy environment, such as construction or music, or if you participate in activities such as shooting or attending concerts, it is important to get regular hearing tests to monitor your hearing health.

Medical conditions:
Certain medical conditions, such as diabetes, heart disease, and autoimmune disorders, can affect hearing. If you have a medical condition that may be affecting your hearing, it is important to get a hearing test.

Ear infections:
If you have a history of ear infections, it is important to get a hearing test to determine if there is any residual damage to your hearing.

Our experienced audiologists will begin evaluation by reviewing your medical history and asking about any symptoms or concerns related to your hearing.

The audiologist will examine your outer ear and ear canal to check for any signs of abnormalities or blockages.

This is the most common type of hearing test and involves wearing headphones and listening to a series of tones at different frequencies and volumes. You will be asked to indicate when you hear each tone by pressing a button or raising your hand.

This test measures your ability to hear and understand speech in different listening conditions. You will listen to spoken words or sentences at different volumes and in different background noise levels, and you will be asked to repeat what you hear.

Depending on the results of the initial tests, the audiologist may conduct additional tests to evaluate your hearing further. These may include tests to evaluate your middle ear function or your ability to hear sounds that are not pure tones, such as speech or music.

Preparing for Hearing Tests

Preparing for a Hearing Test- The most important step is to show up for your Appointment.

Our audiologist will guide you through the testing process and provide guidance on every steps you need to take to improve your hearing health.

Gather information about your medical history
Before the hearing test, make sure to gather information about your medical history, including any previous hearing issues, ear infections, surgeries, or medications you have taken that may have affected your hearing. This information can help us understand your hearing health better.

Bring a list of medications
Bring a list of all the medications you are currently taking, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, and supplements. Some medications can affect your hearing or interfere with hearing tests, so it’s important to disclose this information.

Get a good night’s sleep
Getting enough rest the night before your hearing test can help you feel more alert and focused during the test.

Avoid loud noises
Try to avoid exposure to loud noises for at least 24 hours before the hearing test, as loud noises can temporarily affect your hearing.

Clean your ears
Make sure to clean your ears before the hearing test to remove any excess earwax or debris. However, avoid using cotton swabs or other objects that can push earwax further into your ear or damage your ear canal.

Bring a family member or friend
You may want to bring a family member or friend to the hearing test to provide support and help you remember the information provided by our audiologist.

Wear comfortable clothing
Wear comfortable clothing that does not interfere with wearing headphones or other testing equipment.

Our hearing tests are safe and non-invasive, and they typically take around 30 to 60 minutes to complete. It’s important to have regular hearing tests to monitor your hearing health and catch any changes early on.

After the tests are complete, our audiologist will review the results with you and discuss any hearing loss that may be present. If hearing loss is identified, we will provide recommendations for treatment, which may include hearing aids, cochlear implants, or other assistive listening devices.
